Double whammy for St Andrews Science

St Andrews has not one, but two papers in this week's issue of the journal Science, published today (26 April). Remarkably, the two papers are both from the Centre for Social Learning and Cognitive Evolution, which spans the Schools of Biology and Psychology and Neuroscience. (More...)

 

Prof Andrew Whiten has been awarded the Sir James Black Prize and Medal by the Royal Society of Edinburgh

Professor Andrew Whiten, an expert in primate behaviour and psychology, has been awarded the senior prize for the Life Sciences by the Royal Society of Edinburgh. In being honoured with the Sir James Black Prize and Medal, Professor Whiten is recognised for his "outstanding contributions to making Scotland foremost in the UK in the study of primates and animal behaviour and to our understanding of the importance of a cultural "second inheritance system" in biology and the role it plays in conjunction with genetic inheritance and individual learning.". Election to the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Young Academy of Scotland 2013

Congratulations to our Dr Christian Rutz of the School of Biology, who has been elected to the Young Academy of Scotland. The Young Academy of Scotland fosters dialogue, and collaboration, among the emerging leaders in academia, the professions, the arts, civil society, and business, in an effort to tackle the most pressing challenges facing society at large.

 

Professor Laland has been granted the Wolfson Research Merit Award by the Royal Society.

Congratulations to Professor Kevin Laland (School of Biology), who is among 25 top researchers from the UK to be honoured by the leading national academy of science.
